The Shiva Hypothesis are a black/death metal band from Twente, Netherlands. They were formed in 2012 and up to date they have released only one EP, the one I am about to review. The band consists of the members ML (bass, keys, additional vocals, songwriting), JB (guitar and songwriting), BN (drums) and MvS (vocals). What took three years to release just one EP consisted of three songs was the pursuit of finding the right way of expression and interpretation of music.

Spawned in early 2000 in Athens-Greece, Primeval Mass is an Occult Black Metal band with a lot of influence in heavy thrash metal and they are well known among the fans for producing many tracks in its genre (black metal) with a hint of “Greek mysticism”. “To Empyrean Thrones” is one of the remarkable new album by this band after a three year gap from its last split album. Although influenced initially from favorite bands of the related genres, the personal identity and style of the band remains intact and unique from the very beginning.

URFAUST - Apparitions

Artist:
URFAUST
Release:
Apparitions
Label:
Ván Records

URFAUST’s Apparitions was announced just one day before its actual release on January 30th, 2015 by Ván Records, with minimal, if any, advertising or promotion. Recorded in a single day, it manages to capture the pure mysticism of a true ritual. Although it is mostly an ambient project, there is a strong black metal/ doom aesthetic, with all four songs evoking the breathtaking, occult atmosphere the Dutch duo is precisely known for.

Sect Pig-Slave Destroyed

Slave Destroyed
Label:
Nuclear War Now!

This is the first release for Sect Pig-an enigmatic collective of musicians who choose to remain anonymous."Slave Destroyed" is a mini-album,consisting of 6 tracks, whereas its duration is something more than 19 minutes. The sounds on display here are strongly rooted in black/death extravagance.Something rational perhaps, since the label responsible for the release of this disc is Nuclear War Now! productions,a label known for specializing in all things bestial.

SATYRICON – Satyricon

Artist:
SATYRICON
Release:
Satyricon
Label:
Roadrunner Records/ Nuclear Blast

The long-awaited eighth SATYRICON album was released back on September of 2013 and it took many fans by surprise. Five years after The Age of Nero, it was obvious that the band spent time and put some deeper thoughts into songwriting, forging an album that is by no means proper black metal, or even the powerful black n’ roll of their three previous offerings. Some may dub it lifeless and numb while some others will be taken by its bleak and darkened aura.

The Wind ...that at the Woods is Blowing (Demo, 2016)
Label:
Independent

Oletir is a Melodic Black Metal band from the city of Trikala in Greece formed in late 2013. This demo, which bears the poetic title The Wind ...that at the Woods is Blowing is the band's first ever recording and, in all honesty, it was quite a satisfying listen that motivated me just enough to start writing this text. The demo was released digitally on February 2016 and consists of two songs of melodic black metal mixed with some heavy metal elements.
