Poisonblack

Oulu, Finland must be a miserable, extremely depressing place since the glorious days of the suicidal rockers Sentenced a pitch black shadow of suffering follows the musical steps of the band’s famous former vocalist Ville Laihiala who has not strayed a bit from this path in his current act POISONBLACK.Here is an interview with Ville for subexistance.

Hooded Menace-Effigies of Evil

Artist:
Hooded Menace
Release:
Effigies of Evil
Label:
Relapse Records

'Effigies of Evil' is Hooded Menace's debut release on Relapse Records. The Finnish Doom/Death duo plays down-tuned guitars so heavily dark and at times so slow, that you can almost feel how they drag along dark damp dungeon floors. This is mixed together with melodic riffs and supported by the brutal guttural saliva drenched vocal. It all just comes together in a really enjoyable album. I hear clear references to old Paradise Lost, Candlemass and Cathedral, so if you like any of those I think you will like Hooded Menace.

VAINHARHA - PUREMA

Artist:
VAINHARHA
Release:
PUREMA
Label:
Self-Released

This band’s name comes out from the finnish word ‘Vainoharha’ which is the equivalent for paranoia. Usually, I avoid commenting on album covers or anything else apart from the music itself but this very album features an astonishing piece of work that deserves to be mentioned. What we have here is a digipack carton sleeve with an 8-page booklet picturing an amazing dark vintage landscape on its cover.

Mysteria

Mysteria is a prog-rock-pop-metal band from Helsinki / Southern Finland, with female vocals. The band was founded by vocalist Niki in 2003, based on her tunes and an idea of how they should sound with a band of two guitars and keys. After various member changes the band has now a staple line up, and 2011 marked the release of their debut album Prefatory.

Clandestine Blaze

Mikko Aspa is a well known name to the connoisseurs of underground, raw black metal as well as noise afficionados. His work spreads into many bands and solo projects. This specific interview deals mostly with Clandestine Blaze, a greatly respected project, in the fields of today's black metal. Nevertheless, this conversation touches other subjects as well.

Not long ago,I reviewed an ep of this band"107 Raven Road"was the title.I recall that I liked them a lot.Propably most of our close readres know a few things on them,as they had been interviewed for subexistancesometime ago.To those that have not read this piece,I should introduce them by simply saying that they come from Finland and also that their style is gothic rock, with some dark wave hints I might add.

I should start by stating that this is not a brand new release. This ep came out in 2006.But,on the other hand, there are some strong reasons suggesting that this gem should in fact be reviewed today. Silene are a band hailing from Finland.
