The Old Curiosity Shop
Label:
Self-Released

Victorient is a band with a lot of Goth, doom metal, 80's synth with a bit of good old fashioned rock the first album will be an introduction to fantasy stories and dark reality. Sam and Tansy Dunham-Carter are the ones who created this band, one with a doom metal background the other learning and experimenting with ethereal sounds. While this is not easy to explain or categorize to give the reader an idea, the general feeling from these two genres fits nicely as a description of their music.

Red Sun Revival-Embers

Artist:
Red Sun Revival
Release:
Embers
Label:
Echozone

Now,what do we have here?Red Sun Revival is an english quartet(including one greek,in their ranks!).Having released their debut in 2012,the band is in the process of releasing their sophomore full length effort."Embers" is a 4-track ep,that obviously serves as a teaser for their forthcoming album.Their music could be loosely described as dark wave.To use a different characterisation,I'd say that they somehow bridge the gap between gothic rock and indie rock.

Inmost Silence-Crawling In Circles

Artist:
Inmost Silence
Release:
Crawling In Circles
Label:
Self-released

This is a disc that was-thankfully-sent to me by this band. They come out of germany, and this album is a self released affair.Their name initially brought to mind Current 93-yet this is a totally different case, altogether."Crawling In Circles" consists of 6 songs-therefore it could be seen as a mini album.Nevertheless,it is a great introduction to their work,so far.

Christine Plays Viola-Leocadia

Artist:
Christine Plays Viola
Release:
Leocadia
Label:
afmusic

For my first review for Subexistance I was asked to choose a band from afmusic, a German label working with underground dark wave and gothic bands. And since it was going to be my first review, I wanted it to be as positive as possible; therefore I picked an Italian band with a beautiful name, Christine Plays Viola. And the review is about their latest single-EP, “Leocadia”, which was released on 31 May 2013.

The Hollow Circle-Celebrating All The Love And Beauty

Artist:
The Hollow Circle
Release:
Celebrating All The Love And Beauty
Label:
self released

A few words are propably needed, before I begin this specific review-what we are dealing with here,is an Italian band, which seems to specialise into delivering post punk/goth rock hymns(even though that's a rather harsh word to use, perhaps)."Celebrating All The Love And Beauty"is a marvelous title that fits-and compliments- their music, all along.

Gates Of Dawn-Sepia

Artist:
Gates Of Dawn
Release:
Sepia
Label:
Echozone

To begin with,"Sepia"is an absolutely succesful choice for the title of this album,as it precisely portrays the chromatic sequence that is dominant into this band's music. But also because it clearly describes their sound activity very accurately, albeit chromatically,as mentioned right before.Gates of Dawn are a septet coming from Germany.I need to confess that upon reading the press statement accompanying this disc,I felt a little worried, especially when I read that this band specialises in a form of gothic metal.Mind you,I certainly loved(or maybe, adored perhaps?)some of this
