The Arch - Engine In Void

Artist:
The Arch
Release:
Engine In Void
Label:
Echozone

The Arch are definitely not newcomers in the Belgian electro/ new wave scene, since they formed back in 1986, in a small town called Breendonk, between Brussels & Antwerp. Although, their last full-length album (“In Sofa”) dates back to 1997, the band seems to be in great shape, judging by their most recent effort, “Engine In Void”.

White Rose Transmission - Spinning Webs At Night

Artist:
White Rose Transmission
Release:
Spinning Webs At Night
Label:
Echozone

While not exactly being a famous band, White Rose Transmission could in fact be regarded as a super-group. I usually do not use this rather dull term, but on the other hand, there is no other way to describe this band:originally formed back in 1995 by Carlo Van Putten(The Convent) and most notably perhaps, Adrian Borland(The Sound). Unfortunately, White Rose Transmission never received the attention they deserved, especially if compared to the massive success, both in terms of musicianship, but also,in terms of recognition, that Sound enjoyed back then.

Andreas Gross - Autumn Inventors

Artist:
Andreas Gross
Release:
Autumn Inventors
Label:
Echozone

My first notice concerning this disc was:yet another Echozone release for me to review! And a very good one,I might add..My second notice about it was how wonderfully titled this album is!I could say that"Autumn Inventors"almost sounds poetic to my ears. And what's more it perfectly fits as a description to the majority of the sounds exemplified within this cd.

Der Klinke - Square Moon

Artist:
Der Klinke
Release:
Square Moon
Label:
Echozone

The artwork of this album immediately caught my attention:deep blue iconography, depicting thoughts of coldness and estranged moods.First sounds convince me of their style:cold, repetitive beats, haunting vocals, evocative atmosphere..In fact this could be regarded as an exercise in old-school electro."You" can be viewed as an interaction of pale voices:a male, distant one, accompanied by femme vocals and eerie melodies. What is easily apparent here is that these Belgians have the ability to compose sparkling songs, holding their influences mostly on electro and cold wave.Their rhythms so

Leichenwetter - Zeitmaschine

Artist:
Leichenwetter
Release:
Zeitmaschine
Label:
Echozone

Leichenwetter are a relatively old band, having been formed back in 1996.Since time has passed, they have decided that their new step should be a collection of tracks covering their career so far.Instead of releasing a best-of album though, they preferred to present their tracks in new arrangements/orchestrations.

Gothic Visions III - Echozone

Artist:
Echozone
Release:
Gothic Visions III
Label:
Echozone

Gothic Visions 3 is the third part of this excellent effort put into work by Jork and Echozone’s team. Let us be honest: these days’ musical industry’s heart undoubtedly resides in Germany-there is not one other country (not even England) that actually tries that much to release albums of that fine standards, sparing time, money and graft for the dark scene (naturally, I am not speaking about bands and musicians – talent can be found anywhere world over).

Vendemmian - One In A Million

Artist:
Vendemmian
Release:
One In A Million
Label:
Echozone

Both Vendemmian members are music veterans, who after a long-time musical break strike back to spare us some gothic sound, a sound that’s been missed as of late – with all these hybrids being released every day.

Lolita KompleX - Le Cabaret des Marionettes

Artist:
Lolita KompleX
Release:
Le Cabaret des Marionettes
Label:
Echozone

First thing that struck my mind by the time I saw the album with the characteristic Japanese style, was how bored I was to review this, as I expected something extremely dull, to be honest. In this, there so many different musical styles that I ‘m completely lost! What can one first mention?! Metal/ punk/ gothic/ industrial/ glam/ alternative/ etc, anything one may seek should be here!

Laissez Faire - No Land For Escape

Artist:
Laissez Faire
Release:
No Land For Escape
Label:
Echozone

Strangely, the first thing that came to mind when I first saw this cd, was Adam Smith's phrase: "Laissez Faire et Laissez Passer". Of course, this band has nothing in common with the Scottish forefather of modern capitalism. The second thing that I would like to mention, is that, until today, I had never heard of this band. What's more I am very pleasantly surprised and intrigued I could add, since discovering them. This release of course is a bit old, since it saw the light of day back in 2008.

Les Fleurs Du Mal - Les Fleurs Du Mal:I

Artist:
Les Fleurs Du Mal
Release:
Les Fleurs Du Mal:I
Label:
Echozone

Les Fleurs Du Mal are a relatively new gothic rock band, formed in Sweden back in 2009. Their sonic identity is pretty easy to unravel: somehow all gothic archetypes make a presence here: their name, obviously inspired by Baudelaire's wel lknown collection of poems.
