Carved Souls
Carved Souls was originally an orchestral instrumental side project started in 2001.Band members: Suede-guitar/singer, Legion-Guitar/Bass, Gotham-Keys/Bass and Logan-Drumer started with a band named DarkState that adapted a Cure, Joy Division, Peter Murphy like sound.DarkState later defused & Suede, Legion and Gotham started to work on music for Carved Souls. Influenced by synth-pop/darkwave and other various styles the trio worked on composing scores for commercials and short films.
You formed back in 2001. What was the motive to start the band?
We started making music as a hobby so we came together to work on projects for fun that eventually lead to forming of the band. Are main motive is love for the music and the opportunity to share it.
Which are the band members and how each member take part in the music composition?
Suede, Legion and Gotham are the founding members. The great thing about Carved Souls is that everyone has the same artistic freedom. What we mean by that is that all three of us do the composing. This works out great because we found that this allows all the tracks to flow great with each other because they are not made by just one member. In addition it also avoids the tracks sounding the same style throughout the album. The only real issue comes down to who's turn it is to buy the pizza and vodka.
You already have 4 releases. Can you give us more details about them?
Sure.Reconstructed was the beginning and our first unofficial release. To sum it up, it was a small compilation of our early work and was only available as a limited digital release.Machinery was our second release. We like to think of Machinery as our first official release more'so over Reconstructed. Machinery was a fun album because it consisted of many experimental sounds that portrayed dark, cold, empty and mechanical sounds hence the album title. After Machinery came Darken Lights another album that showed more growth in the sound and development of the tracks both in vocals and lyrics. Lol at least that's what we were told. Most recent is the new album Waveform. Scheduled to be released this year. Waveform should prove to be the most interesting because we have a new fusion of soft and hardware synth.
Are you satisfied with the comments of the press and the fans so far?
So far we have been very fortunate with the feedback received. We play close attention to the comments, the fans, reviews and are thankful for the great support.
What is the feeling of an artist play live his music in front of a crowd?
Wow! Well for us it's a mix of emotions that goes all the way up and down the feelings scale. At times it can be nerve wrecking and others exhilarating. We feed of vibes, the more engaged we are with the audience the better the performance. Overall we tend to have a blast regardless of the venue. Legion does bring along chicken wire just in case we need to protect ourselves.
How difficult is for a band to find a good contract these years?
It really depends on how much effort your willing to put into the band. Best results comes from good communication, so if everyone in the band is on the same page and level then there is no reason why the band can't progress. Our advice, find good band mates first then contract second.
Describe me your music?
We like to believe that we are a new type of synthpop. A synthpop that offers back a connection with the audience. We have a quote on myspace "Feel the music" We want songs that can strike an emotion and make the listener relate or simply get them moving to the tracks. The same way that old darkwave, gothic and electronic music use to.
Are there any new bands that you admire?
We have a respect for all genres of music at the moment we are partial to Rotersand and Alvin and the chipmunks.
How about your dreams and your plans for the future?
Well we don't think that far ahead, the minute it gets to serious the less it becomes our passion. We do hope for the best and will continue to do what we love.
A message to all the people that support you?
Of course! We can't thank the fans, insomniacs, online radio stations, webzines, DJ's and people like yourself enough. We are extremely appreciative and grateful for all the support. P.S. we like gummy bears.
