Deathstars
After three years it's finally here, the long awaited follow-up album to the massively successful “Termination Bliss”, and it's a bombraid of depression, death, sex and rock. ”Night Electric Night” is tough and black, yet seductive and passionated in its expression of the city's destructive nightside.Skinny answers some questions for subexistance.
After your massive success with your previous album "Termination Bliss" do you feel a little anxious? That is why you took 3 years to release your new one "Night Electric Night"
- We have always used a lot of time to complete our albums. This is nothing we plan to do but our bars are rising all the time. We only want to improve, develope and dont get stuck in a genre, vibe or idea. Most importantly we cant release anything we are not at least 99 % satisfied with.
What was the source of inspiration behind the creation of" Night Electric Night"
-The years between Termination Bliss and Night Electric Night meant a lot of endless touring and also great difficutlies for the bandmembers on a personal level. Which resulted in destructive partying and other ways to escape from reality. This was the main ispiration.
How has the feedback been to your music so far from press and fans worldwide?
-It seems that a lot of press are getting used to us and can see it for what it is and dont compare us too much to other bands as they used to. Over all very good response and it seems that they only ones that doesnt get it is genre-specialists.
Many bands seem to take it a little too easy when it comes to the lyrics.Would you say that the lyrics are almost as important as the music?
- For us its been very important that the whole package is solid. The lyrics need to reflect the music. Stage show and image should also help telling the rest of the story. We dont take anything easy when it comes to the creating process.
Have you noticed any improvements in your sound with your new album, that you had wanted to make?
- You always find parts you want to improve or change. Especially when you go on tour and play the songs live a lot. But we are not the kind of artitsts that break into the museum to finish our work.
How difficult or easy is to bring the atmosphere of your albums on stage? And do you seek direct contact with the fans or you just play your music say thank you and leave?
-There are so many parameters that are involved in a good or a bad live show.If the sound sucks you could really lose the grip but when the crowd is rocking with us its almost always a great show. We have the advantage that we always try to give everyhting on stage and this usually infects the crowd as well so 7 times out of 10 I think that magic is there.
A lot of groups have been influenced by you. How do you feel about this?
- That is one of the best compliments you can get so of course we feel very happy about it.
What are some of your interests outside of music?
- We are mostly real music nerds but I know Cat is really into fishing.
How about your future plans?A big tour maybe?
-As Bessie Smith said it: Nobody knows when youre down and out.
A message to all the people that support the band all these years?
-Thank you all. If I had a bigger house I would love to have you all at my place.
Thank you Skinny for the interview i wish you all the best.
