Denight

A great gothic rock/metal band from Germany with their release "Human Reflections"really surprised me.So here as an interview with their singer  Stephan.

First of all give me some details about your history and the motive to create the band?
From my point of view I was lucky because Tim got to know me by chance and chose me for his own project he always wanted to start.He knew that I was a singer, so he asked me to join a creative session with him. That was the birth of Denight. There was immediately a perfect connection between us.So we started the project and searched for additional members to join.

Which are the band members and how each one of you take part in the music composition?
Up to this point Denight consists of 5 members, Tim (composing/guitar), Mad (bass-guitar/additional vocals), Mischa (drums), Markus (keys) and me, Stephan (vocals/lyrics).Normally Tim is the one who comes up with the ideas, and then it is time for all others to join composing with each of their instruments.But very often it is up to me to do do the arranging of parts within a song, because generally I decide where I want to sing and where I don´t.That depends on the lyrics I usually write myself. Then we record the vocals and after that we come together and do the finishing until we all are contented with the outcome.

How would you describe your musical sound?
Well, we all have different styles of music we prefer, so there are lots of various influences from lots of genres. Describing our music is not very easy. So I  would like to invite everyone to give it a listen. “grinning”It may be described as Gothic Rock with Metal influences and very melancholic vocals, but just try and decide for yourself.

Can you give me some more details about your second album "HUMAN REFLECTIONS"
I would say it is the advanced version and up to date, state of the art kind of stuff we like to do. When we created the first CD “Above and beyond” we had to do a lot of experimental work to find our own style. While composing our second CD it was like how to improve and advance what we had created. That means everyone of us tried to be better and more innovative. This found its expression in more complex song structures and riffs and more variation.Besides that Human Reflections is much heavier than Above and Beyond and has a bigger sound.We will continue to follow this line on the next record...

How has the feedback been to the album so far from fans and press worldwide?
We get a very good resonance from nearly everyone. By the way: Thanks for   your great review and for featuring the video to our Song “The Flame” as video of the week.When playing live people tell us that they like our music and our show, even if they didn´t know us before.The reviews we got were all more than average and nobody wrote it wasn´t worth listening to it.  

Which are the main themes of your songs? Who writes your lyrics?
Well, the songs are mostly about topics like time, human feelings (love, hatred), how to cope with your existance, and death. But also about society and its habits. And there is still lots of topics to write about.I, as the singer normally write the lyrice by myself, but sometimes we use texts of other members, too. Like the song “sorry” which was written by Markus.

Which are the expectations of this release?
Why create songs? To reach the people, to entertain them, to become known, to be able to play more music for them is like a drug. I couldn´t live without it, I hope there are some people out there who share our passion.

Lets talk about your live shows. What are the feelings on the stage when you play your music live in front of your fans?
It is always wonderful and exciting. Every gig is different. On Stage and after the show it is always nice to see the reactions of the fans. They come to us and want to talk a bit, want to know some things about us or just ask where they can get our CD´s. It is an awesome feeling to know that the show was good.

What are your plans for the near future?
Right now we are composing new songs for our third CD. We are also planning some live gigs for this year at the moment.Two german gigs are already confirmed and there are a lot more to follow.
