DRyED

DRyED

DRyED is a metal band hailing from Athens, Greece. They consist of members who have already made great music each and every one separately: Panos Mademlis(Dirt Spawn Disease, ex-ROT), John Fasoulakis(ex-Odes of Ecstacy), Vangelis Yalamas(Fragile Vastness)and Stathis Kotsoris(Vermingod) who all share a passion about music.

The band begs to differ from any other Greek Band from the first listen as one may wonder 'Are these guys really Greeks?' because of their polished and tight sound as well as the music videos they have made in their brief career so far! The music itself is a blend of the NWOAHM (New Wave Of American Heavy Metal) with influences from bands like Mudvayne and Deftones to heavier bands without missing the necessity of melody. All the songs from the bands yet unreleased opus mix great vocal lines with heavy riffing, precise but intricate bass and powerful drums.’’

-Hello Panos!  First of all, present yourself and the band to the viewers of Sub-Existance. How did DryED get toghether?
Hello Lefteri!
First of all thank you for your time!
The idea of the band started in 2007 when John Fasoulakis started recording his DIY album at Fragile studios with the help of Vangelis Yalamas. Two years later John and I met through myspace in October of 2009 and Stathis Kotsoris was introduced to the band by a good friend.DRYED started to evolve immediately improving recorded material and writing new music.

-Some of your members are coming from different music backgrounds, for example both John and Stathis, come from death metal bands whereas you have a more experimental musical past. Was it difficult for you guys to work and collaborate in the band as far as the music is concerned?
It was never a problem. Instead it was an amazing way to experiment and evolve, mixing everyones background inside a cap of heavy rock music.

-This past year you have made quite a fuzz around your name as you were the first band, if I’m not mistaken, to produce full HD 1080p music videos in Greece. Was it one of your priorities to go as professional as possible with this band?
Yes. DRYED started with one goal. To push the envelope, enter new territories and work hard, having always a professional outcome.

-Talking about videos, you recenlty released your second music video ‘’Coma’’, a quite amazing video for the Greek standards. Tell us a little bit about the procedure of such a demanding work.  What are your thoughts about the final result?
A hard but amazing road out of headaches and joy. The procedure was more like a domino effect. A zombie horror script we came up with, hooking up an endorsement deal with Army of Two Paintball Airsoft MASKS, that lead Vangelis finally to the idea creating the video also in 3D. After that it was only a matter of time organizing it. But only possible to film it thanks to all our friends, known and unknown, who showed up that day.

-DRyED have raised the bar high for Greek bands and you seem to hunger for success more than many others. What difficulties does an underground band face and what sacrifices have you made for the band?
I believe there is no such thing as "difficulties" these days. It is better to separate todays bands in: bands that have fun playing music and bands focused on releasing a professional work. The collapse of todays music industry has brought a new opportunity to musicians and bands. "Underground" has become a word that is loosing ground every minute we speak. If you work hard and promote your music clever on the internet, people will hear it.As for sacrifices, two of us live at least 300 kms away from Athens but it has never been a reason to hold us back. If you love what you do, you will overcome every problem.

-Now let’s go back to the music of the band. How was the recording process of the band’s debut album, what mistakes did you try to avoid based on your experience in the music field?
Every step, from writing a song to recording it, is an amazing experience for us. We believe that its important to connect first our thoughts before making a new step and move forward. Appreciating one each other is the healthiest way to create music from deep inside.

-You have some very well-written lyrics and diverse vocal lines full of emotion and anger. What is your source of inspiration as the singer of the band?
Everydays life surrounding me. Nothing more, nothing less .Something that happened last night, about mixing two or more completely different thoughts and emotions, or just writing my opinion about something I read somewhere. After having it all on paper, the goal is to create an organized pattern like a story everyone can identify with, exploring a positive way out of any negative energy.

-Do you plan to release the album anytime soon?
We are mixing our material right now and we already started to upload on our websites some of our songs and videos and we will upload new stuff whenever we have something ready. But we can't talk right now about a release date.

-Finally, what are DRyED’s plans for the rest of 2011? Are there any thoughts for some live shows in the near future, what can we expect to see from you guys in a live environment?
First of all finishing our first record and promoting it, since we already started writing new songs. As for live shows, we are already talking about booking dates soon. What can someone expect…? Devour the stage.

-Anything last you want to add before we finish the interview?
Thank you Lefteri for your time. Take care and enjoy always!

-Thanks a lot Panos for the interview! We’re looking forward to more DRyED music in the near future! We wish you all the best!
