Erevos

 Greece is a country that keep born excellent Black Metal bands.The new big thing is Erevos from Thessaloniki Macedonia.So we ask Growler Vocals/Bass of the band to give us some more details about the band.

Getting started, I would like you to tell me a few words about the creation and the development of Erevos as a band?
Erevos were formed in winter of 2004. The demo ‘Burning souls’ was released in summer of 2005. The reactions were good so we proceed to our second demo release ‘Mytholocigal evil’ at 2006. After that, a split release followed with Satanicon from US by Deathtoll Productions(US) and a release in a dvd case of our demos by Satanhades Productions (POR). At 2009 we released our EP ‘Adou Katavasis’ which proved to be very good, because it gave us opportunities and played with several names like:MAYHEM, SATYRICON (well...almost!), ARKHON INFAUSTUS, NECRODEATH, ORDER OF THE EBON HAND and many many more respectful names. Plus some shows outside from Greece.

Lets talk about your new work after the promising promo cd "Adou Katavasis".Give us some more details about it ?Are there certain songs on the album you want to mention or tell something about?Is it going to be mastering by Dan Swano in Unisound as you did with the promo?
We ‘ve finished with the recordings and now we are finishing the editing. After that, Dan Swano will do the mix and the master. The sound will be more brutal. We think that the top song will be ‘Adou Katavasis’, but also we have a completely new song called Erinyes and it is so memorable! We are very excited with this song! One last thing, we have re-recorded one of the songs that is loved by our fans: Grotesque Blasphemy.

What are some things that are completely new to the album?Did you find a title?
The title is ‘Descensus Ad Inferos’ (it means a descent to Hades). One thing is certain that will be new: The sound. Dan Swano is a great sound engineer and producer and a great guy of course!

Who handled most of the writing duties for the album?Ancient Greek mythology and satanism is the main idea of the lyrics?Do your personal opinions concerning politics and world events find their way into the music?
The songs are written mostly by me (Growler) and Tisiphone, but all the other members are giving their personal tone. Well about the lyrics now, we only wright concepts now. The new album has to do with Greek mythology exclusively and it is about a tour to the innards of Hades. In later releases we will engage other matters.About the politics. If you think of it Erevos is ‘an out of this world’ name, a dark name. This is completely opposite with the politics that represent a form of reality. In other words politics have nothing to do with us.

Lets get back to "Adou Katavasis" Are you pleased by the reviews so far? Are there any labels get in touch with you?
We are more than pleased! This is because there are so many reviews on the net (and not only), from ‘zines from all over the world that say great things about us! We take strength from things like that and we want to continue.We had some proposals from labels but it wasn’t something interesting so we didn’t sign anything. 

What music besides black metal inspires you?  
All the kinds of metal,especially thrash! Of course we are inspired by movie soundtracks and a bit of classic music too.

How important is the band in your life?
This thing is our whole life!We have done many things about our band and we are determinated to reach to the end.

What are the best and worst things about being in a band?
Nice question!

Good things: Travels, new experiences (experiences that someone who doesn’t have a band definitely won’t understand), getting in touch with new people, music expressions and of course the live experience is so amazing!

Bad things: You must find the right chemical with the other members, you must spend so many time and money and the worst thing of all is to not be recognized for your work.

What do you hate?
Well in Greece the recognition for the bands is a difficult thing...very difficult thing! On the other hand we have many bands that are boasting, but they haven’t achieved anything important.  In general any ‘rock star’ attitude, from any band (famous or not), is a thing that we really hate.One last thing of course that we hate is not to be recognized for our work and trouble.

What  has been the greatest challenge the band has faced up until today?
Certainly our tour in France! We had to please a different audience, the communication was more difficult. The organization was difficult too, plus that we stuck there because of the volcanic explotions! But we succeeded and it was a GREAT experience!

What represent the fact of being on stage for you? Is it the best part for a musician?
This is certainly the most important part for a musician. Especially for a metal musician and of course if you warm the croud and the croud will respond to you, then you have experienced something amazing! We give our best in our live appearances, especially when the croud is good.

Which song from the new album are you looking forward the most to perform live?How would you describe one of your shows for someone who has not see you live?
Erinyes! It is melodic and powerful. We haven’t played that before on a live show.Our live shows are characterized by fists and kicks!!!This is a little unusual for a band with keyboards but we have so many thrash elements.We thank all our fans and audiences for that!

What bands are you listening to lately and what acts have been influencing your sound?
Hmmm...Necrodeath, Anorexia Nervosa, Mayhem, Exodus, Dissection, Kreator. Certainly these bands are affecting us. We listen to many bands.

We have a great B.M scene in Greece.Do you think that all these bands will survive?
Well the older bands still exist and they are doing excellent job. The new bands are very good too, but it needs work and of course to leave far away from Greece if they will have any opportunity.

What is planned and what do you hope to experience as a band in the future?
Our first target after the release of our album is to make a European tour. In addition we will search for a good label. We hope to achieve something good.What we want to have in the future is more live shows.
