The Last Days of Jesus

The Last Days of Jesus

Europe's most unique deathrock band has always aimed at combining the classic atmosphere of early 80's acts and modern sounds and patterns, to create their own alternative of exciting death- and gothic rock.TLDOJ have been going for more than 14 years now, constantly adjusting their personal preferences, in order to provide the world their individual and breathtaking version of a thing that might be labelled PROGRESSIVE DEATHROCK or something.Fessy the guitarist of the band answer some questions for subexistance.

You were formed as a band back in 1993.what was the dreams back then?
Fessy: To become famous and kick the asses of all the dancefloor cocks ;-)) And now seriously, well, we really don't remember anymore...
Your music is a combination of death rock with some new music elements? Can you describe me why you made that decision?
Fessy: I think we didn't make any special decision about that. We have always been influenced by many bands playing quite different kinds of music, not only gothic rock or death rock, so the mixture came up naturally. Each band member has his own way to play his instrument too, so our music is a mix of many influences.
You have already 8 albums but your last release was on 2007.Why is that?
Fessy: Eight, really?:-) I would say we have 8 official releases in total since 1997, 5 of them were more or less standard albums. Now we are finishing our next piece, it is supposed to be a tribute album to various Eighties-bands from Eastern Europe, the recordings are done, now we are dealing with the legal shit like copyrights etc. Our current label Strobelight Records should put it out until the end of this year. There is also some new stuff ready for a new album, maybe next year we could finish it. We in fact dont care, if the last album is 3 or 300 years old, we prefer to put out songs we believe in, instead of any shit...
Which are the band members and how each member take part in the music composition, lyrics etc.
Mary0 - voice
Vajco - drums
Anjou - keyboards and programming
Fessy - guitar
Bajo - bass
Fessy: Bajo is our brand new member and came this year. The songs are composed by the whole band, the lyrics are purely Mary0's privilege... But I think I wrote words to one song too:-P
You have a lot of live experience.Tell me about the feelings on the stage and do you prefer small clubs or big festivals?
Fessy: We absolutelly love live performances and we enjoy small clubs and big festivals as well. Important is a good atmosphere, nice people in the crowd and a good afterparty, then you really dont care, if you are in a music pub or at a big event.. And, yeah, good beer is important too, of course... It's a great feeling to be on stage, you are there to entertain the people, and receive on the other hand the energy coming from the crowd, you can do whatever you want and feel like whoever you are... Maybe somebody has already said something like this, anyway, this is really it :)
Are there any new bands in the scene that you admire?
Fessy: I like young Slovak bands like Devil Street 13 and Swan Bride. But we very often have to go back to the roots and listen to some good old 80s and 70s stuff, because many new bands are just dark dancefloor rubbish...
Are you satisfied with the fans and the press comments for your music so far?
Fessy: Well, I think we are satisfied. Many journalists and fans became our friends. It makes us very proud if people like our music and they also know why. Music is great when you don´t have to explain it. Actually, we are happy that we had not to hear or read comments like „fuck you bastards“ in the past:-) Maybe it will come now:-D We of course had also some critical reviews, but the positive ones were the majority... But as we don't play at hip-hop festivals and don't read Bravo, we don't know, what the major music industry thinks anout us... :)
What makes you different than the other bands?
Fessy: It's difficult to say. There are billions of bands in the world and everybody wants to be the special one. But I think everything already has been played and said, so the only thing you can do is to play what you want, what you feel, you must trust yourself and avoid to be just a copy of some original... It's sometimes funny to hear people say: Wow, Last Days of Jesus, you are great, you sound like the band XYZ or YZX, and we just say: Really? And who the hell is that??? However, I have never heard something similar to us, so I hope we are on the right way.. That's also something we like to hear, if somebody says, that TLDOJ sound like TLDOJ:-)
What things inspire you the most?
Fessy: It's a cliché, but it's the world and life around us: people, religions, politics, global war, global idiocy, anything you can or must see, hear, smell or feel... On the other hand, our greatest inspiration has always been our band in itself, our friendship. I love the moments when we compose new songs, find a good riff or melody, believing it is the best song or riff ever... until another idea or riff comes, of course:-))) This brings progress...
A message to all the people that support you all these years?
Fessy: Very simple: Let our music make you happy! And thank you very much and see you soon somewhere in the world;-)
Thank you Fessy for the interview all the best to your band.
