Oulu, Finland must be a miserable, extremely depressing place since the glorious days of the suicidal rockers Sentenced a pitch black shadow of suffering follows the musical steps of the band’s famous former vocalist Ville Laihiala who has not strayed a bit from this path in his current act POISONBLACK.Here is an interview with Ville for subexistance.

Getting started, I would like you to tell me a few words about the creation and the development of  Poisonblack.
PB was created around the songs I wrote which did not suit for SENTENCED.It kinda started as a project but pretty soon it was a full band and after some line-up changes PB was an unstoppable part of our lives.
Which are the current line up and how each member take part in the music composition?
Myself/Gtr&Voc,Tarmo Kanerva/Drums,Antti Remes/Bass,Janne Markus/Gtr and Marco Sneck/Keys.Usually I bring a song to a rehearsal place and together we make it sound as poisonblack sounds.Everyone pours their heart and soul into the song…
You are the one of the most sucessfull and wellknown gothic rock bands.In your opinion what makes a band sucessfull?
To me success means having done a great album that you are really happy about and feel that you would not change a thing on it.Of course it means a lot too when other people enjoy the music too and get something real out of it also.
What was the source of inspiration behind the creation of “Of Rust And Bones”
Musically to go back to the roots.By roots I mean the music we used to listen to when we were kids.Inhale the spirit of rock`n`roll if you will.We played most of the songs live while recording to get a band sound instead of just building everything up with a pro tools.Lyrically it is more realistic than previous ones but everyone must read them themselves and make up their own mind.
Are you pleased by the reviews so far?
I do not read reviews.
Which are the main themes of your songs? Who writes your lyrics?
I use my life for the lyrics.Events,feelings and my personal view on different things.
Which are the expectations for this release?
To take the band yet another step ahead so we can tour more and play our music to a lot of people.Commercially…bigger sales mean money.Money means financial freedom and it allows us to only do music.To do something that we love and are good at.
How difficult or easy is to bring the atmosphere of your albums on stage?
Getting easier and easier now that we have found our sound.We keep it pretty simple and rely on the chemistry between us and the songs we`re playing.We do not use any backround tapes.It is all 100% live.
How would you describe your musical progress over the years?
As the friendships and the chemistry between the members have grown throughout these 10 years has our music also naturally developed to its current form.Nothing was ever forced.We all live and breathe this band so its always there whether we like it or not.I cannot separate music from the rest of my life.Music is my life.
What are some of your interests outside of music?
Breathing and eating.
