Tiarra

Tiarra

While i was searching in My Space for new bands i discover Tiarra.A great band from Romania that deserves our attention.Alex Indianu(vocals) gives an interview to subexistance about this amazing band.

Tell me a few words about the history of the band?
Hi there. Well the history of our band is ratheer short but definitely heavy. Band started in 2004 initially with a more "black" sound. We changed quite a few members in the  years to come until we got to our current setup and a more symphonic gothic sound. We recorded a self produced demo in 2006 called Drama Per Musica, and finaly our first full  length album, "Post Scriptum" released in 2008 by Alphawinter (Omvina) record in Germany. One gig in Wien and loads of concerts in Romania since then.
You have change a lot of members all these years. You made that choice cause you want to change your style and your sound?
I think the first changes were about sound, when we wanted to get to more gothic rather than black sound. Afterwards it was more circumstance. In the end it proved all for the  best, and we ended up with a setup containing to vocals, a violin and a cello, which seems to be appreciated by our listeners although it poses difficulties in our sound  requirements.
Describe me your music?
I think the name of our demo describes best our music. It's a "drama per musica", not necessarily in the textbook definition of the term. It's all about the feelings which make  us humans, about how we react to the drama in our life, the perpetual duality that defines us. This message is embeded in both our lirycs and music. We sometimes sing about  ourselves, our own experiences and drama. As a genre we're somwhat close to gothic symphonic, with loads of other influences like doom, death, black, darkwave and so on. I  personaly hate labels, and we hope that in time as we get more experience we'll be able to really have a sound of our own.
Which members take part in the music composition and lyrics?
Anda and John are pretty much the heart and mind of the band. John does most of the composing while Anda writes most of the lyrics. However, everybody builds up on the frames  they set, so the final products bear the print of all. During rehearsals Jhon gets an ideea of a mainline, so we drop everything else and all start to work on that until until  it gains form and substance. We work on impruving them all the time untill the point we actualy record them.
You have one release at 2008 "Post Scriptum" give me more details about this album?
It took us 2 years to do it. We've been through several studios and had various problems with it. There were times we thought it will never actualy see the light of day. We did  the recordings and mixing on our own, and the lack of money gave us troubles. We then posted some songs on Myspace (www.myspace.com/tiarraband) and someone from Alphawinter Recs  in Germany said they would be interested to produce them. We said yes, signed a contract and the album was finaly released in 2008.
What are the comments from the press and the fans so far?
Press was indulgent with our struggles. I don't remember seeing a negative review on our work. People listening to us are resonating simply because we sing about things we all  experience or might experience or sometimes dream of experience. We've all been sad, we've all been scared, we all loose someone we love someday. Life isn't peachy and we all  know that. So all we sing bring strong memories with our listeners. It's just sharing, talking more than singing and listening. We like to believe that our music is first heard  by the heart, and then by the ear.
Tell me about your live shows?Your feelings on the stage?
We feel great everywhere we go, no matter what. We don't have many shows though, because our stage and sound demands are quite high. 8 people, 2 vocals, cello, violin, 2  keyboards next to the regular guitarr/bass/drums is quite a lot for pubs and small stages. But we take advantage of the few gigs we get to play and always try to give our best  and make the best out of everything.
How is the Romanian scene? Are there any new bands that you like?
It is emerging. Slowly, but it is. There is a lot to be imrpoved, and we are definitely far behind other countries, but I am confident that given time things will get better.  And there are loads of good bands. On a personal note for an instance I like bands as Abigail, Kistvaen, Bucovina, Truda and Negura Bunget. But many others are rising nowadays.
What things inspire you?
As I sayed, life. All the things that may happen in a life time. Good things, bad things, things that leave a mark. We do have a tendency to treat the more darker sides though  :)
About your future plans?A new album maybe?
We're currently working to finish an EP that will have 3 or 4 songs. It will be called "Le Monde Des Tenebres", will be self produced (kudos to our guitarist, Tudor, for he is  the one technically taking care of it), and will probably free. With it we hope to convince a record company, preferrably from outside Romania to produce our next long length  album. If this works out, we'll see what else the future brings. Unfortunately, due to the material difficulties we experience we cannot afford to have long term plans at the  moment.
A message to all the people that support you?
Thanks a million for being there for us, we will try our best not to dissapoint you!
Thank you Alex
