W.E.B

W.E.B

Darkface - Rythm Gtr and  Vocals of W.E.B one of the most well known bands from Greece, gives an interview to subexistance.

SubX:Let’s start with a short rundown of the history of the band.
The band exists since 2002. It took a long time to achieve a stable line-up and to start composing, but finally in January 2006, our first official release “Don’t Wake Futility” hit the shelves. In May 2008, we released our second album, “Jesus Heist”, which granted us more recognition. We toured several Greek cities, with Inactive Messiah, and then we had a tour of the Eastern Europe, along with Septic Flesh, Inactive Messiah and Dimlight. That was the first ever tour outside Greece, with a billing consisting only of Greek bands only. Now we are in the process of composing songs for our next album.
SubX:How did you come up with your name, and what does it mean?
By chance, I’d say… It was clearly a spur of the moment, so I can’t tell you exactly what I was thinking, because I don’t remember. W.E.B. stands for “Where Everything Begun”. The place where it all starts, meaning the darkest and most remote core of the human mind and soul.
SubX:What are your main influences?
We are influenced by music in general. There are so many parts of it that have something to offer, that it would be a shame to confine ourselves exclusively to certain aspects, even as mere listeners. Certainly, there are bands and artists that have influenced us, but I prefer to think of them as inspirers, showing us the way and leaving a valuable musical legacy to those who love music, and, by extension, to the generations of musicians to follow.
SubX:Are you pleased by the feedback of your latest album “Jesus Heist”?
You rarely come across such could reviews of an album, and it is very pleasing, especially if you are its creator. We didn’t see any bad reviews for this album, unless you take into account some minor comments about certain aspects that some people didn’t like, which is a only matter of perception, I think, and is totally acceptable. The people’s reaction to “Jesus Heist” was unexpectedly good as well, and that is primarily what armed us with more faith to ourselves, but also greater responsibility regarding our next steps.
SubX:Have you completed the recordings of your third album? When will it be out?
At the moment we are finishing the pre-production, before we head to Deavasounz Studios, where the album will be recorded. We don’t know the exact date of the release, at the moment, but I imagine it will be sometime before mid-2011, taking into account that the whole process will be over by December, as it seems.
SubX:In terms of music, should we expect something very different from your latest album?
Not something radically different, I wouldn’t say so. But it is some even darker material, even nightmarish at some points. I think it will be quite an interesting release. Listening to it, it seems to me like a natural evolution of W.E.B.’s music.
SubX:Can you describe the general lyrical concept of the album?
I’d rather keep that for the release date, it’s still too early.
SubX:What are your plans for the near future?
After 5 years, we revisit Crete for a gig during the BLOODCULT FEST, which will take place at Rethimno, on October 22-23. As soon as we return, we are heading to Devasoundz Studios for recordings, and then there will be a period of preparation for our shows for 2011, which we have already started to schedule, and will be announced when the time is right.
SubX:Thanks you for your time! Any last words for the readers of Subexistance?
Thank you all for your support until now. We will see you soon, upon the release of our new album. Stay dark!!
