Denight and their album “Human Reflections” really surprised me: an actual Gothic band with metal outbursts and the emblematic presence of their frontman, Stephan, dominating.

Apparent are the influences originating from the Finnish scene (my favorite one), but even references reaching the sound of “Love Like Blood” occur. Their music is easily accessible to quite a wide audience and in no case does it make one loose or bores, not for a mere second. Equivalent doses of melancholy, pessimism, romanticism and darkness shape a truly sublime ambience. Stephan’s voice comes balanced, full of energy/ dynamism, colorful and an obscure aura that captivates one. He totally embodies the meaning that being a Gothic frontman bears.

The production is flawless through the album in whole, something quite difficult to be achieved nowadays. The musicians are more than professionals, with the keyboards’ ethereal melodies creating a darker image, and the characteristic crystal clear guitar riffing harmonizing with them, completing this album’s puzzle, an album of quality, nevertheless. No composition stands out, for all compositions are of equal density, be it a down tempo song, or a dynamic one with heavy guitar riffage.

Conclusively, “Human Rejections” is one of 2010’s greatest releases, regarding the Gothic Rock/ Metal scene. I hope that, in their albums to follow, they will not start any unwise experimentation and ruin the aesthetics they really strived to form in this album. A release that in no case should be ignored by all those in love with this music.
