Lacrimas Profundere - The Grandiose Nowhere
Lacrimas Profundere, the ever-changing band.To begin with, Lacrimas Profundere have started as a very special doom band. So special indeed that many fans are still crying out how great their early years were and turning down what they represent today.
Albums like La Naissance D'Un Rêve, Memorandum, and my personal favorite (which is quite obvious) Burning: A Wish, were albums not very known to the world, but still so deep and full of inspiration that built a loyal fan base. Then comes Fall, I will Follow, a goth rock influenced album that introduces the band's plans for the future. This is their 9th album, and it's actually one step closer to what they pursue right now - be a famous goth rock band."The Grandiose Nowhere" is a pretty concrete album, which consists of the usual "goth" recipe - love and pain.
The production is crystal clear, and everything is close to perfection, which I guess is kind of mandatory if you want to be a respected goth rock band nowadays.Rob Vitacca, the new singer of Lacrimas Profundere, has definitely improved his voice on this album, having more feeling on his voice, and not just trying to imitate the vocals of the band’s former singer. This is fortunate as he really has talent and this is quite obvious on almost every song.Putting the disc on, I almost jumped off my chair. The starting tune reminded me a lot of the band’s “darker” past, which as I told I admire, and just made me think that yeah, these guys never forgot their past, and they shouldn’t. And maybe that’s the answer to the question, is this another 69 eyes or Him copycat? No they are not. They have that feeling that makes them unique, no matter if many elements of their music would suggest the opposite. As for the tracklist, we find the classic recipe goth rock songs like “The Letter”, “Not For Love”, and “Her occasion Of Sin”, and although such style can’t be groundbreaking anymore with so many bands having exactly the same style, they are truly well played and inspirational, taking them well above the average goth rock standards. Then there are those more atmospheric tracks, which in my opinion have always been the band’s strong point.”I Don’t Care”, “My Little Fear”, “Dead Heart Serenade” and especially “Lips” are simply perfect and just note the great potential of this band.
The only bit of a let-down is the last song, as “No Matter Where You Shoot me Down” could be a little more inspired. To sum up, this album grows on you. At first it may sound like typical goth rock, but then you discover how nice the songs are tied together, and the emotion which is hidden in between the tracks. For the old fans- this album has very little to do with the old days, but you have to understand that this is the band’s decision, take it or leave it. Only thing I can assure you is that this album does have the Lacrimas Profundere unique seal, only maybe in a different approach. Rest of you, give it some time and trust me you will enjoy it.
