Mystigma - Andagony

So, Mystigma it is. Lets us firstly analyze the release’s sound, and the album’s positives, in general. Metal/ Rock is the key here, with some gothic rock musical extensions, an amazing production and quite the musicians.

The compositions emit energy, dynamism, musical color; the band strives to be a little bit mainstream-esque at parts, in order for the songs to be carved on one’s mind. The effects come in aid; however, we should be rational: for a thick album to take place, these characteristics are far from enough. To begin with, musical balance in music, and also this quite “something” that hooks the listener, making him willing to taste their music again and again, are absent. Let’s also comment Torsten’s voice, which may be a bit vivid but the lack of color and enthusiasm prevent him from elevating the songs; there are compositions where he is not even in the rhythm’s boundaries, he sounds as If he is at loss. A natural aftermath: songs miss their nerve, aesthetics, they sound totally disconnected from one another. In no case does he impress, as other frontmen do, who are able to even take a mediocre song to a higher artistic level, through emotions drawn, plus their comfort. The carry it in their soul and manage to captivate the audience at once. In my opinion, the band has to take some time communing with their selves, for, as time passes by listening to the album, I’m way bored as all song are somehow identical and, naturally, and probably, I will not listen to it again.

I will not be further tiring concerning this review. An album that, if you ask me, suits the remainders, not in terms of talent, bit in terms of “philosophy”, enthusiasm, and musical dissymmetry. I hope that they’ll correct their errors in the future, by implanting emotion to their songwriting, spotting the right balance between vocals and music. I hope them forgetting this shallow release. I wish them the best.
