Revolution State"Viridian Resonance"( vendetta music)
Don’t get fooled by the type music this band is tagged. Although Revolution State are indeed an industrial/electro band ‘Viridian Resonance’ is not the album you expect to hear in a club or a place where the only thing you want is to headbang.
This is music you can listen to on your home or on a better occasion live, music that you can feel. If you expect cheesy hooks and heavy beats you may be disappointed with this album.
This album is really difficult to describe, the music consists of mostly slow tracks with no certain melodies and vocal lines that sound pleasing to the ear, yet it manages to drag you in it immediately. All songs are flowing one after the other making it sound like a single whole as there are no pauses within them. There certainly is ambience in the music which makes it more atmospheric while the beats and the rhythm nicely lay on the background marking their presence only where needed. As a whole the album maintains a more ambient atmosphere based mostly on drone music with whispered slow vocals that almost float in the waves of the music.
The production is clear enough which is somewhat typical to this kind of music, the fact that there are no actual instruments make the process easier. The lyrics were a nice surpise but reminded me of the theme of NIN’s 2007 record ‘Year Zero’ as they deal with social matters or better social problems such as goverment corruption (Killed for your Convenience), environment (yggdrassil), religion (No Kami) and generally problems concerning each and every one of us. An expected lyrical theme in our days but very nicely done and it also fits the music tightly.
Closing I’d like to add that is album could be easily the soundtrack of the past decade (at least lyrically) as it really showcases what our world has become in 55 minutes. Listen to it and see how slow and atmospheric tracks can actually ‘wake’ you up.
Standout tracks: yggdrassil, Killed for your Convenience
Also check: Nine Inch Nails, Skinny Puppy etc.
