2011 finds Florida metalles  Trivium on there best moment of their career so far. With a new drummer (Nick Augusto) in their ranks the bands strives for success as it never had before. ‘In Waves’ is ferocious, heavy, melodic, a sincere record for Trivium who blended all those elements and sealed them with their trademark sound. This record is a less straight-up thrash and more riff oriented record (it features some of the best riffs they’ve ever written!) From start to finish the record features quality song writing, from the epic breakdown of the title track to the power ballad type of ‘’Of All These Yesterdays’’ Trivium doesn’t dissapoint.

The band chose to drop 7-string guitars and take a more simple approach to their music which bears a great resemblance to the glorious ‘Ascendancy’ days, which is a wise choice although they didn’t repeat themselves with this new album which it is for the listener to decide whether it worked for good or bad.The compositions are more straightforward, with not many technical parts expcept where the bands feels they’re needed, the solos are exceptional (check ‘Caustic are the Ties that Bind‘ for proof) as well and the moody interludes that are featured between some songs are a nice break from the heavy stuff . Nick Augusto also brought a death metal element to the band with his usage of blastbeats over Matt Heafy’s brutal outburst, which is a step forward for the band. ‘In Waves’ is an album full of considerable hooks and great sing-a-long moments (Black, Built to Fall). As you go deeper into the record you can’t help but notice that this record is quite incosistent as Trivium tries to cover many different genres with this record but it’s definitely worthy and will definitely please all metal fans. Overall, it’s a great modern metal record which I highly recommend.
