Violent Disease - Voices Of Lust
They have played several gigs in Greek venues, now it is time for the Athenian hardcore/thrashers Violent Disease to record their debut EP "Voices Of Lust". And it is not a bad effort at all.
Within seconds of listening, you can understand a few things about the album. First of all, it is extremely well-produced (which is not a standard for most debuting bands). The songs sound really polished, something that shows beyond a shadow of a doubt that the band's intentions are serious. The second thing that is obvious is that the band consists of good musicians: All instruments are up to the game. Helped by the album's sound, they offer moments of heavy riffing and great drumming as Stratos spits out societal/political lyrics with venom.
It is also true that the group have worked a lot with the four songs that consist this EP. There are some very good moments in there, like the catchy riff of "My Awakening" and the blasting drums of the eponymous song. Violent Disease sure sound like a united band and their Lamb Of God meets Heaven Shall Burn sound becomes prominent in all songs. Unwilling to experiment, but definitely sincere and intent to make all fans of the hardcore/thrash genre to bang their head off.
It is unquestionable that the band shows huge amounts of love and passion at what they do and in our humble opinion all four songs could be present at an established band's album. The compositions are structured in a quite similar way, as they start really fast (and furious), with a slower but steady (and still furious) outbreak around the middle of the song. Nothing revolutionary, nothing brand new, but sure as hell tested, tried and approved by the metal community.
Overall, a very good effort by the young Athenians, as they certainly have the potential for bigger things sooner rather than later. Definitely worthy to check them out.
